Congratulations to all! Thanks to the support of Park Ridge the Kibosho library has become a reality. The library in Kibosho was recently dedicated and several Park Ridge residents traveled to Kibosho to join in the celebration. You may view the album which highlights their trip and the dedication of the library.
Trip Highlights Album Global Alliance found and secured the land for the Kibosho Center. It is located on the grounds of a primary school. The land is owned by the government and allocated tothe Kibosho district. This is a very secure situation. The Kibosho library serves 7-8 schools in a five kilometer area. It has electricity (unlike the school next door) and internet, most likely wireless. Global Alliance set up a Board to oversee the Center. It includes the Head Master and a parent from each school along with others who Global Alliance feel will be needed. Global Alliance oversaw the development including acting as general manager on the construction. Global Alliance did all of the purchasing and overseeing of the funds. History Park Ridge is a blessed community made up of generous caring people that individually and collectively work to improve the lives of others in our community and throughout the world. The purpose of this project was to come together as a community to share our resources with a small community that is struggling to survive. Through Park Ridge Cares we reached our goal by encouraging Park Ridge residents, churches, schools, and community groups to rally and make a commitment to support this project in 2008 and 2009. The Village of Kibosho had expressed the need for a library/community center. This center will serve as a safe, structured environment for orphans and other children. It will also provide the entire community with a social, educational and recreational meeting space. To help us realize this vision, we worked together with Global Alliance for Africa. Global Alliance for Africa has been successfully working in Africa to improve the lives of children who have been affected by HIV/AIDS. Global Alliance works with schools, teachers and volunteers in Africa to educate orphans and other needy children affected by HIV/AIDS. Global Alliance for Africa is committed to the development of long-term, self-sustaining programs. The City of Park Ridge dedicated FY 2009 to the promotion of a first-ever, community-wide service project: to raise funds to build a library/community center in Kibosho, Tanzania.
THANK YOU! Park Ridge raised $32,000. The committee thanks community groups, businesses and individuals who participated in fundraising efforts:
